Freshman to join full team in EURO qualifier
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's soccer freshman Elis Nemtsov has been called up to compete with the Israeli Women's National Team as part of the UEFA Women's EURO qualifiers.
It's the first career call up to the full national team for the Bradford, Ontario native. Nemtsov, who was born in Haifa, Israel, has previously been a member of the U-17 and U-19 Israeli National Teams and competed in EURO qualifiers and Elite tournaments.
"It's a great opportunity for me. It's my first call up to the full national team," Nemtsov said. "Training and playing with this group will be a great experience for me to see how soccer is in Europe and how women in the professional level play."
Her call up comes just ahead of Israel's next match in the EURO qualifier. Nemtsov added she will join the team this week for training prior its next match against Italy on Sept. 17.
"We're very happy for her to have the opportunity to represent her country, especially with her debut on the full National Team. And what a great opportunity for her to play against Italy next week," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "You hope this adds that much more confidence when she returns."
Most recently, junior Tanya Boychuk, sophomore Mya Jones and freshman Lara Kazandjian were named to Canada Soccer's U-20 National Team and competed as part of the 2020 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship in February.
"I think it's something that is becoming the norm in our program – to have players represented on their national teams," Monaghan added. "It's a win-win. These kids are gaining the international experience with their home countries, and to have players with the ability to represent the University of Memphis at the same time is incredible."
