Stats
After 22 games of non-conference action, including eight against Power Five competition and four against teams ranked in the top five in the nation, Memphis will hit the road for a four-game series against Tulane to begin AAC play. This will be the first of two series between the programs, as the teams will meet in Memphis April 23-25.
The Tigers and Green Wave have met nearly 100 times dating back to 1978. The Green Wave hold a 57-41 edge in the all-time series, though the Tigers have won two of the past three matchups. Prior to that, Memphis hadn't won two consecutive games vs. Tulane since 2007, the last time the Tigers won a series on the road vs. the Green Wave.
Tulane's non-conference schedule wasn't as gauntlet-like as Memphis', though the Green Wave did pick up a win in the opening game of a three-game series vs. No. 5 Mississippi State. Most recently, Tulane was swept at home by Louisiana Tech and dropped a home series to Grand Canyon.
The Green Wave offense averages nearly six runs per game and includes five regulars that are hitting at least .275. Bennett Lee and Collin Burns pace Tulane with .381 and .351 averages respectively. Lee is tied for the team lead with three home runs despite appearing in just 11 of Tulane's 23 games. Luis Aviles leads the team with 17 RBIs though only hitting .238.
21 different pitchers have appeared thus far for Tulane, with six that have started a game. The weekend rotation includes Braden Olthoff (2-1, 3.00), Jack Aldrich (1-1, 4.76), and Trent Johnson (1-3, 6.98). Olthoff picked up the win vs. No. 5 Mississippi State and has three quality starts this season. Aldrich is coming off of consecutive rough outings vs. Louisiana Tech and Grand Canyon, as he allowed six runs in each Tulane loss. Johnson hasn't pitched more than four innings in an outing yet this season. Seven different relievers have appeared in at least two games and sport a sub-3 ERA for the Green Wave.
