No. 4 Tigers Host No. 5 East Carolina in Opening Round of AAC Championship

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger women's soccer team will open up postseason play this Sunday afternoon when they host the Pirates of East Carolina in the opening round of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Memphis (7-5-4, 3-2-3 AAC) finished the regular season in the four-slot after they dropped their final match of the season to SMU. Jocelyn Alonzo scored early for the Tigers after an assist from Eef Kerkhof, but the Mustang offense would fight back late in the match for two goals in the final 10 minutes.
"Our last outcome does not define our team," said head women's soccer coach Brooks Monaghan. "We are playing some of our best soccer and that is what we are focusing on."
For the season, Mya Jones leads the team with six goals while Alonzo has recorded five goals and six assists in 16 matches played. Six other players have recorded multiple goals this season while the Tigers notched 24 assists on 33 goals.
Claire Wyville has been the go-to for the Tigers in-goal for the last 10 matches. Wyville, who has notched five solo shutouts this season while making 18 saves.
East Carolina (8-7-3, 3-3-2 AAC) is coming off a 0-0 draw with Cincinnati in their final regular season match this past Thursday night.
The Pirate offense has been led by Carsen Parker with six goals while Maeve English has played and started in all 16 matches for ECU.
Memphis and ECU met earlier this season where the Tiger offense exploded for a 4-0 win, where three of the Tigers goals came in the opening 45 minutes of play. Alonzo, Jones and Haylee Spray all found the back of the net early in the match to give Memphis a 3-0 lead going into the break. A miscommunication amongst the ECU defense in the 88' would lead to the Tiger's fourth goal.
"We are doing what we can to give us the best outcome. We're going to put the focus on us and go out there and just play our game," said Monaghan.
Sunday's match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time at the Track & Soccer Complex. Coverage of the match will be available on ESPN+.
