MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis football team lost to the No. 25/25/25-ranked UCF Knights, 35-28, at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium on Saturday in Memphis, Tenn. The one-possession loss is the third this season for the Tigers (4-5, 2-4 American Athletic Conference).

Quarterback Seth Henigan completed 26-of-39 passes for 284 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, while rushing for a team-high 69 yards with a score. Both Brandon Thomas and Jevyon Ducker had rushing touchdowns for Memphis, while Joseph Scates reeled in a 14-yard touchdown pass against the Knights (7-2, 4-1 AAC).

Linebacker Xavier "Zay" Cullens had a game-high 13 tackles for the Tigers to go with a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. Geoffrey Cantin-Arku had nine stops, while both Quindell Johnson and Sylvonta Oliver had eight each.

Trailing 21-14 at halftime, Memphis tied the game at 21-21 in the third quarter on Ducker's 1-yard touchdown rush with 6:53 left in the frame. In the fourth, UCF took a 14-point lead with just 4:58 left in the game, but the Tigers went right down the field to cut the lead in half, 35-28, on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Henigan to Scates with 3:18 remaining.

The Knights were able to seal the win on the following drive, however, passing for one first down and rushing for another to ice the game.

The Memphis Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 10 when the team hosts Tulsa at 6:30 p.m. at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
