Tigers Outlast Pirates in AAC Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team picked up their first AAC win of the season when they outlasted the Pirates of East Carolina for the 9-8 victory.
Following today's game, Memphis moves to 13-18 overall.

How it happened:
- ECU opened the game with a solo homerun from Wools in the top of the third to take the 1-0 lead.
- Memphis would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning when Kendall Lee drew a bases loaded walk and sent Sam Ibison across home plate.
- The Pirates would notch their second homer of the night when Bailey Ledvina sent a two-RBI ball over the left field fence to make it a 3-1 ECU advantage.
- The Tigers opened up shop in the fourth inning; with the bases loaded, Alyssa Dean doubled to deep center field to send Ibison and Hannah Bassham home.
- Kendall Lee, the very next batter, would hit a sac fly out to left field that allowed Gracie Morton to tag up and score to give Memphis the 4-3 lead.
- Taylor Smrt got in on the fun when she singled out to left-center field that brought Dean and Camryn Wineinger around the bases to extend their lead out to 6-3.
- Memphis added one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Morton recorded a sac fly out to center field to send Bassham across.
- East Carolina added in two more homeruns in the top of the sixth inning with a solo shot from Sydney Yoder and a grand slam from Jocelyn Alonzo to give the Pirates back the lead at 8-7.
- Zoe Adebayo would get the game-winning hit when she slammed a ball out to left-center field that brought Wineinger andAlexis Dale home to lead to the eventual 9-8 win.
- Six different Tigers recorded hits tonight while Alyssa Dean, Kendall Lee and Zoe Adebayo all drive in two runs each.
- Hallie Siems got the start tonight going 4.1 innings with five strikeouts while Mikayla Hoschak recorded the win after 1.1 innings of work.
