Tigers Defeat Arkansas State, 44-32, in Home Opener

The Tigers (2-1, 1-0 American Athletic Conference) piled up 547 yards of total offense to improve to 23-1 in the team's last 24 non-conference, home games. Also with the victory, Memphis took down the Red Wolves (1-2) for the fourth-straight time.
Quarterback Seth Henigan was again terrific for the Tigers, completing 19-of-28 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns. The sophomore also ran in a score from eight yards out for his second career rushing TD. Tight end Caden Prieskorn had five receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back Jevyon Ducker ran for a game-high 76 yards on 10 carries with a TD, while running back Brandon Thomas had an eight-yard score to seal the win for Memphis. Wide receiver Joseph Scates had 52-yard touchdown, while Gabriel Rogers had a team-high 86 yards on five receptions.
Defensively, Jaylon Allen led the Tigers with a team-best nine tackles and a fumble recovery, while linebacker Davian Mayo had eight stops and a quarterback hurry. Linebacker Tyler Murray also had eight tackles.
Trailing 32-31 with 4:22 minutes left in the game, Memphis drove 75 yards on six plays to retake the lead on a 39-yard rushing touchdown from Ducker. On the following drive, a raucous Tiger crowd helped force two-straight false start penalties on Arkansas State on fourth down, leading to an errant snap that was recovered by Memphis. Thomas' ensuing eight-yard score iced the game for the Tigers.
With the fumble recovery, Memphis has forced at least one turnover in eight-straight contests. Over that stretch, the Tigers have posted 18 takeaways.
