Memphis Drops Friday Matinee to UTSA

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team dropped its Friday afternoon match to UTSA 3-1. The Tigers (8-16, 4-8 AAC) struggled against the block from the Roadrunners, hitting a .122 clip and tallying 29 attacking errors in the match.

Set One
- UTSA got off to a quick start opening the set on a 6-0 run, aided my two service aces from Cansu Gunaydin, forcing a Memphis timeout. The Tigers would retaliate by creating a 5-1 run of their own, bringing the score within two.
- The Roadrunners would extend the lead midway through the set, assisted by three-straight aces from Ellie Turner. The Tigers would look to hold off them off late in the set with kills from Clara Bednarek, before falling 15-25.
- Memphis and UTSA opened the second set trading points back and forth, with the Tigers taking a slight lead.
- The Tigers extended their lead midway through the set with kills from Reilly Briggs and Madison Rice-Locket along with an ace from Tabytha Toelke.
- The Tigers and Roadrunners went point for point late in the set trading blocks and kills. Rice-Locket and Bednarek closed out the set with a block, giving Memphis the 25-22 win.
- Memphis and UTSA opened the third set going back and forth. The Roadrunners put together a small lead midway through the set with three straight blocks, forcing a Tiger timeout.
- The Tigers put together a 6-1 run midway through the set with Toelke and Bednarek putting down kills to bring it within one.
- The Roadrunners would go on a 9-3 to close the set and take it 25-20. UTSA was assisted but big performances at the net from Alicia Coppedge and Gunaydin.
- UTSA went on an early 7-2 run, with blocks and kills from Caroline Krueger and Coppedge, forcing Memphis to use a timeout.
- The Tigers put together a 5-0 run midway through the set, aided by kills from Briggs and Rice-Locket along with an ace from Rylee Busse, forcing a Roadrunner timeout.
- UTSA held it together late in set four, taking it 25-18. The Roadrunners capitalizing off Memphis errors and strong performance at the net.
- Two Tigers finished with a hitting percentage over .300: Briggs (.360) and Bednarek (.316).
- Briggs led Memphis with 14 kills, followed by eight from Bednarek and seven apiece from Jordan Heatherly and Rice-Locket.
- Busse led the Tigers with 10 digs, followed closely by Catalina Martinez and Toelke with nine.
