Tigers Fall short in Game Against Tulsa

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis softball team dropped a close high scoring game to Tulsa 9-7, after going back and forth throughout the game. The Tigers (5-28) were able to capitalize with their runners on base however they fell short as the Golden Hurricanes tallied three homeruns in the game.
"Softball is a game of adjustments and we continue to stay with the process looking to get better and improve with every game." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We shot ourselves in the foot a few times tonight, but we are going to continue to stay with the process, like I keep saying, and keep looking to improve with each pitch and at bat."
Tulsa 9, Memphis 7
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Linsey Hargis got on base first for the Tigers hitting a stand up double to deep center field in the top of the first inning. Hargis would steal third off a wild pitch before being left on base to end the inning.
• Tulsa got on the board first as Bearpaw hit a two-run homerun to center field in the bottom of the first inning.
• The Tigers scored their first run as Emma Ponder hit a single up the left side sending Neely Taylor home in the top of the second inning. Memphis added two more runs as Sam Ibison hit a two-run single through the center allowing Aliana Zavala and Ponder in for the scores. Ibison finished the inning running in for the Tigers' four score on Madison Berner's single to right field.
• The Golden Hurricanes added another run to their score line in the bottom of the second as Morgan singled to center field, Wood reached third before advancing on an error by the Tigers to come home.
• Tulsa added three runs on two at-bats with Bearpaw singling to center field sending Edwards home, followed by Nash doubling to right center allowing Skaggs and Hall in the bottom of the third inning.
• LaNya Bates recorded a one-run single sending Zavala home for the Tigers' fifth run of the game in the top of the fifth inning.
• Memphis held Tulsa from an in the park homerun as Hargis threw the ball from the left field wall to Zavala who then sent the ball to home plate allowing Ponder to tag out Skaggs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
• Berner recorded her first homerun of the season over center field, bringing in Kendall Lee to put the Tigers up by one in the top of the sixth inning.
• Tulsa tied the game back up in the bottom of the sixth inning as Keith hit a homerun over the left field wall. Morgan added another homerun to the inning sending the ball down the left field line. The Golden Hurricanes added one more run before finishing the inning.
NOTABLES
• Mikayla Hoschak got the start going 2.0 before being relieved by Rylee Dugar in the bottom of the third inning. Dugar went 3.2 innings and recorded 1 strikeout.
• Hoschak reentered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, relieving Dugar to finish the game.
• Berner recorded her first homerun of the season, going 2-for-3 with one run and three RBIs.
• Lee went 3-for-4 with one run, Ibison went 3-for-5 with one run and two RBIs, Ponder went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI and Bates went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

• The Tigers will take on Tulsa in game two of the series Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m.
