Tigers Head to Tulsa for Week Two of Conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger softball team head to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricanes in week two of conference play. The Tigers (5-27) look to secure their first conference win of the season and build off the momentum as they push through the back half of the season. Memphis dropped its first conference series in a sweep by Houston last weekend, March 25-26.
"We are looking forward to this weekend and seeing the progress we've made over the past week." Said head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro. "We've been setting goals with our pitchers and our hitters and we are looking forward to seeing those executed this weekend."
Tulsa (14-16) currently sits fifth in the AAC standings and is harboring a five-game losing streak. The Golden Hurricanes most recently fell the Central Arkansas 4-5 on Tuesday, March 28, and No.2 Oklahoma State 1-3 in the ninth inning on Wednesday, March 29.
Two Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Kendall Lee and Sam Ibison. Aliana Zavala and Meagan Chism lead the team in RBIs with 14, followed closely by Lee with 12. Zavala leads Memphis in homeruns with four on the season. Ibison also leads the Tigers in hits with 25 with Lee right behind recording 24 so far. Pitcher Hallie Siems leads the Tigers with 79 strikeouts so far on the season.
Memphis will begin the conference series against Tulsa Friday, March 31, at 6 p.m. followed by a game Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m. The Tigers will close out the weekend on Sunday, April 2, at 12 p.m.
