Tiger Softball Heads West to Littlewood Classic

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team heads to Phoenix, Ariz. to compete in the Littlewood Classic Feb. 16-18. The Tigers will take on Arizona State, Brigham Young University, California, California State-Fullerton and Grand Canyon over their three days of play.
Memphis opens the tournament Friday with CSUF (4-0) and GCU (4-1) at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Tigers will follow up on Saturday with BYU (5-0) and ASU (2-2) at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will close out the Littlewood Classic with Cal (5-1) at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. All times are central standard time.

Three Tigers are currently hitting .300 or higher: Khamiyah Brown (.333), Arianna Cox-Cole (.308) and Aalyiah Dixon (.300). Brown and Dixon produced three of the four RBI over the weekend. Dixon recorded a triple against Pittsburgh, notching her solo RBI in the game. Cox-Cole went 2-2 on stolen bases in her weekend debut.
CSUF has seen an undefeated season so far and allowed only two runs in the Easton Classic during their opening weekend. The Titans have six players hitting over .350: Megan Delgadillo (.583), Kika Ramirez (.429), Jessi Alcala (.400), Bailey Wallace (.400), Peyton Toto (.400) and Hannah Becaerra (.385). CSUF has scored 22 runs with their pitching staff boasting a 0.52 ERA.
GCU is started the season strong going 4-1 with its lone loss coming at the hands of Boise State. Six players for the Lopes have recorded batting average over .350: Makaiya Gomez (.556), Brynn-Jordan Smythe (.444), Kristin Fifield (.429), Savannah Groshong-Kirk (.417), Ashley Trierweiler (.417) and Kayla Rodgers (.375). GCU has posted 34 runs with a 1.35 ERA from its pitching staff.
BYU has gone undefeated thus far on the season going 5-0 at the Paradise Classic last weekend. Four Cougars are hitting over .350: Maddie Bejarano (.500), Violet Zavodnik (.438), Huntyr Ava (.400) and Ailana Agbayani (.368). BYU has also recorded 38 runs along with posting an ERA of 1.24.
ASU has opened the season sitting at .500 after going 2-2 in the Kajikawa Classic, defeating St. Thomas and Maine while falling to Northwestern and Boise State. Two Sun Devils are hitting over .400: Alesia Denby (.500) and Yannixa Acuña (.417). ASU has recorded 22 hits on the season with a 2.96 ERA from its pitching staff.
Cal opened the season with a bang going 5-1 with its sole loss to the No. 23 Louisiana Cajuns during the Louisiana Classics. The Golden Bears have four players hitting over .350: Acacia Anders (.500), Kaylee Pond (.429), Elon Butler (.364) and Tianna Bell (.357). Cal has recorded 38 hits with seven homeruns and an ERA of 2.87.
