Tigers Drop Final Game of Littlewood Classic

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped its final game Sunday morning against California 9-4, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Tigers (0-9) took an early lead against the Golden Bears (10-1). Memphis produced three-straight doubles to take the lead in the second frame. Cal responded with scoring at least one run in the remaining innings to get the comeback win.
Juniors Kennedy Semien and Mckaylee Polk put together a strong performance on the day; Semien went 2-of-3 at the plate with two RBI and two doubles while Polk went 2-of-3 at the plate with one run and one double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Cal struck first scoring on back-to-back Tiger errors in the top of the second inning. The Golden Bears added a second run as Alyssa Herrera singled down the left field line sending Tiana Bell in for the score.
• Polk recorded Memphis' first hit of the game, doubling down the left field line in the bottom of the second frame.
• Zoe Adebayo evened the score for the Tigers with a shot to left center for a two run double in the bottom of the second inning. Memphis took the lead in the next at-bat as Semien fired the ball down the left field line for an RBI double.
• The Golden Bears tied it back up in the top of the third inning as Acasia Anders doubled to center field, bringing Kaylee Pond in for the run.
• Cal took the lead back in the top of the fourth frame as Anders singled up the middle allowing Tatum Anzaldo to reach home.
• The Golden Bears added another run in the top of the fifth as Herrera singled up the middle sending Mika Lee in for the score.
• LaNya Bates reached base off an error from second base along with successfully stealing second for the Tigers in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bates would be left stranded in scoring position to close out the frame.
• Cal continued to add to its lead with a one-run double in the top of the sixth. The Golden Bears added two more runs to the board before ending the top of the frame.
• Memphis put up another run as Semien doubled down the left field line, sending in Presley Morris for the score in the bottom of the sixth inning.
• The Golden Bears increased their lead recording a one-run double to right field in the top of the seventh frame.
NOTABLES
• Taniyah Brown got the start in the circle going 7.0 innings with two strikeouts.
• Semien put together a notable game: 2-3, two RBI and two doubles.
• Polk recorded her best game of the tournament after going 2-3 with one run and one double.
• Memphis recorded four doubles in the game (Semien (2), Polk and Adebayo).
• The Tigers tallied seven hits against the Golden Bears: Semien (2), Polk (2), Adebayo, Berner and Khamiyah Brown.
