Tigers Shutout in Home Opener Against UNI

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team was shutout of its home opener as Northern Iowa recorded a no-hitter on Wednesday night in the 7-0 loss.
The Tigers (0-10) struggled early against the Panthers (4-2) before holding the final four innings scoreless.
Freshman pitcher Abigail Morgan came in as relief in the top of the third inning and recorded her best finish of the season, tallying six strikeouts in her five innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• UNI got on the board early when Addison McElrath tripled down the right field line to clear the bases for the 3-0 lead. The Panthers added one more run off a throwing error from Memphis.
• The Tigers closed out the top of the second inning as Ally Callahan fired a ball to Aubrey Williams at second base catching Alexis Pupillo stealing.
• The Panthers put up another run in the top of the third inning as McElrath doubled to right field sending Maddie Parks in for the score. UNI went on to produce two more runs for closing the top of the frame.
• Memphis managed two base runners in the bottom of the second after Zoe Adebayo was hit by a pitch and Kennedy Semien drew a walk, however both were unable to be sent in for runs.
• Adebayo made her biggest play of the game to close out the top of the sixth inning as the grabbed a line drive followed by tagging first for the unassisted double play.
• Madison Berner looked to build momentum as she reached first on a fielder's choice before being left stranded in the bottom of the sixth frame.

• Taniyah Brown got the start in the circle going 2.0 innings with one strikeout.
• Morgan came in as relief in the top of the third. She recorded six strikeouts in her five innings pitched.
• Adebayo put together an unassisted double to close the top of the sixth inning.
