Mar 15, 2024 | Rifle
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis sophomore Gabriela Zych earned three All-America honors from the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA). Zych was named First-Team All-America in air rifle and earned Second-Team All-America accolades in both aggregate and smallbore. Last year, Zych was named an Honorable-Mention All-American in air rifle.
At the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships, Zych placed 10th in smallbore with a score of 586 and took 21st in air rifle with a total of 593.
Also at the NCAA Championships, Zych was named the recipient of the Elite 90 award, becoming the first Memphis student-athlete, regardless of sport, to earn the prestigious honor. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
2023-24 was a breakout year for Zych, who also earned First-Team All-GARC in smallbore, air rifle and combined – just one of three student-athletes in the conference to accomplish the feat.
Zych had one of the best individual seasons in program history this year, leading the team with averages of 586.786 in smallbore, 595.357 in air rifle and 1182.143 in aggregate. Over the course of the season, she set the program records in both smallbore and aggregate and tied the school mark in air rifle. Zych also earned berths to compete in both smallbore and air rifle at the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships.
