Tigers Drop Pitchers’ Duel to Shockers

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Memphis softball team dropped a Saturday afternoon pitchers' duel to Wichita State, 3-0, at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
The Tigers (6-42, 1-25 AAC) fought hard defensively against the Shockers (24-21, 15-11 AAC) giving up only four hits in the game. The Memphis outfield played strong making run-saving plays throughout the game.
Wichita State 3, Memphis 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Wichita State got on the board first when a Shocker scored on a Memphis throwing error in the bottom of the second inning. The Shockers added one more to their advantage before closing the frame.
• The Tigers made impressive back-to-back defensive plays in the bottom of the fourth to make it a three-up, three-down inning, gaining momentum in the process. McKaylee Polk nabbed a lineout to third and Drue Thomas showed off her speed to grab a fly in right-center field.
• The Shockers added a run on a leadoff solo shot in the bottom of the fifth frame to make the score 3-0.
• In the top of the sixth, Aaliyah Dixon recorded the Tigers' first hit of the game with a one-out single to second base but was left stranded to end the frame.
NOTABLES
• Kelsie Adams had four putouts in left field.
• Rylee Dugar got the start in the circle and went six innings while recording one strikeout against the Shockers.
• Dixon recorded the lone Tiger hit in the loss, singling to second base in the top of the sixth frame.

• The Tigers will close out their series against the Shockers on Sunday at noon at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
