Memphis Closes Out Regular Season at Wichita State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team hits the road for its regular-season finale at Wichita State at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. The series will open Friday at 6 p.m. with games scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
The Tigers (6-40, 1-23 AAC) dropped their final homestand to East Carolina last weekend at Tiger Softball Complex. Kennedy Semien had a strong showing in the series hitting .417 with three runs and a pair of RBI against the Pirates.
This will be the 20th, 21st and 22nd all-time meetings between Memphis and Wichita State, with the Shockers holding a 16-3 all-time advantage. The Tigers are looking for their first win over the Shockers since 2018.
"This series is a good opportunity for us to compete as we close out our regular season," head coach Stephanie VanBrakle Prothro said. "If we can execute our game plan we can compete with anyone."
Zoe Adebayo leads the Tigers slashing a team-best .278/.453/.388 this season with McKalyee Polk and Arianna Cox-Cole following with .273 and .266 batting averages, respectively. Cox-Cole is the Tigers' top base stealer, swiping 13 successfully on the year, tying for the fourth-most in the conference.
Adebayo continues to be the leading run producer for the Tigers, driving in a team-high 23 RBI on the season after notching three against East Carolina. She's also scored 12 times herself.
Taniyah Brown paces the team with 129 innings, sixth most in the conference, and has recorded 77 strikeouts this season. Rylee Dugar has added 83 innings of work for the Tigers in the circle.
Wichita State (22-21, 13-11 AAC) is coming off a 6-0 win over AAC-newcomer North Texas on Sunday afternoon to snap a two-game skid.
The Shockers carry a .274 batting average and are led by CC Wong who is slashing a team and conference best .455/.851/.555, fifth best batting average in the nation, along with 43 runs and 43 RBI and 13 home runs this season.
Addison Barnard and Krystin Nelson are hitting .372 and .324, respectively, for the Shockers. Barnard has slugged 17 home runs – second most in the AAC and eighth in the nation.
Wichita State sports a 4.27 team ERA and is led in the circle by Chloe Barber's 3.07 ERA. She's tallied seven wins with 116 strikeouts in 75.1 innings of work on the season. Allison Cooper carries a 4.03 ERA and five wins in 20 appearances this season.
