No. 6 Memphis Tops No. 16 Morehead State to Sweep Bluegrass Road Trip

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The sixth-ranked Memphis rifle team closed out its Bluegrass road trip in dominant fashion Sunday morning, defeating No. 16 Morehead State, 4722 to 4678, at the Button Range.
The victory came one day after the Tigers' road win over top-ranked Kentucky, giving Memphis a perfect 2-0 weekend against two of the nation's top programs.
Sophomore Gabby Ayers led the charge for Memphis by setting a new Button Range record in Smallbore with a 594, pacing a dominant effort that saw five Tigers place among the top six overall individuals. No other shooter in the match totaled higher than 589 in smallbore.
Memphis posted team scores of 2347 in smallbore and 2375 in air rifle to reach its second-best 4722 aggregate with 305 centers. Morehead State followed with 2314 in smallbore and 2364 in air rifle for a 4678 aggregate.
Individually, Emmet Bodrogi claimed the top overall aggregate at 1184, followed by teammates Sophie Cruz (1178), Katrina Demerle (1177), and Gabriela Zych (1173). Ayers' record-setting smallbore mark highlighted the morning, while Zych matched Bodrogi with a 595 to share the top air rifle score of the day.
Morehead State's Hayden Bell led the Eagles with a 1171 aggregate, tying Memphis' Kenlee Ewton for fifth overall.
With the sweep, No. 6 Memphis (4-2) continues its strong start to the 2025-26 campaign and solidifies its place among the nation's elite early in the season. The Tigers return home next weekend to host Army on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the R.F. Fogelman Range.
