OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Memphis rifle program finished second in its opening match of the year with a score of 4709 in a tri-match against No. 5 Ole Miss and No. 4 Nebraska Saturday in Oxford.
After Memphis' first relay, the Tigers were ahead of the Cornhuskers and had trailed the Rebels, who had an extra counter. Memphis' Achille Beretta opened the second smallbore relay with the program's highest score of 594 with 42 centers, a mark that also was the best by any shooter on the day.
"I am really proud of our team today," said head coach Gabriela Zych. "We have been working really hard these past few weeks, and we saw some of that pay off today. There's still work to be done, but Memphis is fired up for tomorrow and the rest of the season."
