Mar 10, 2025 | General
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis athletic department in conjunction with their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) partner Altius Sports held its inaugural NIL Summit for a select group of Memphis student-athletes. The two-day event was held on campus February 24-25 in the University Center and was sponsored by Landmark Construction .Â
Organized by Camie Cole, Altius NIL Athlete Marketing Manager and Deputy Athletics Director of Regulatory Affairs, Kathy Sulentic, the NIL Summit provided student-athletes with critical information surrounding NIL 101, Contracts, the Evolution of NIL, Content Creation and Branding.Â
The inaugural NIL Summit saw more than 70 student-athletes apply to participate with the 40 selected student-athletes representing the football, volleyball, women's soccer, men's soccer and track and field programs. A collaborative effort with campus partners, presenters included Cole, Sulentic and Lynda Wray Black, Professor of Law at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law who also serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative. Auburn Sage, the Social Media Manager for the athletics department, highlighted the most effective ways to build an online brand presence.
"It was an informative and productive event for our student-athletes that we thought went extremely well," said Cole. "We discovered that our student-athletes are craving this information and are eager to learn more. We look forward to growing the event in the future and engagingÂ
more student-athletes with essential information as NIL continues to evolve. Our goal is to grow the brand of our student-athletes while enhancing the Memphis brand."
Thanks to title sponsor Landmark Construction the select group of student-athletes had the opportunity to compete for a $5,000 NIL deal via a Content Creation Competition. The collection of student-athletes were broken into groups of five and utilized the knowledge they gained to create a social media campaign for current Memphis sponsors. The winners of the Content Creation Competition were Maddie Roberts and Riley Simmons from women's track and field and Matt Adcock, Marcello Bussey, and Jon Hulbert from football.Â
The winners of the Content Creation Competition will now film a social media campaign for Landmark Construction and each student-athlete will receive a $1,000 NIL deal with the company. The NIL Summit enabled all the student-athletes to connect with Memphis athletics partners through their Content Creation Competition submissions that were shared with current sponsors.
