Tigers Trek to Nashville for Midweek Game at Lipscomb
Mar 18, 2025 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team hits the road for a midweek game at Ken Dugan Field vs. Lipscomb on Wednesday at 2 p.m., rather than the originally scheduled 4 p.m. due to the threat of storms Wednesday night.
Wednesday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and Jeff Brightwell will have the call on GoTigersGo.com via audio stream.
Memphis (11-8) is coming off a series victory over Lindenwood at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field over the weekend. The series win marked the fourth so far this season, including a pair of series wins over 2024 NCAA Regional-qualifying teams (SEMO, LA Tech).
INF/OF Cy Turner was named to the American Athletic Conference's Weekly Honor Roll for his performance at the plate last week, going 7-for-14 to slash .500 / .533 / .786 and lead the Tigers offensively. He slugged a three-run home run in Memphis' 7-4, series-clinching win over the Lions on Sunday afternoon to put the Tigers on the board in the second inning.
Lipscomb (5-13) enters Wednesday after dropping a series at Austin Peay two games to one over the weekend. The Bisons are led offensively by Jake Berg (.313 AVG. / 20 H / 6 RBI) and Damien Kenealy Jr. (.234 AVG. / 5 HR / 14 RBI).
RHP Caden Robinson (1-2, 7.62 ERA) will make his first midweek start of the year after previously starting four Sunday games for the Tigers. Lipscomb will counter with RHP Cole O'Brien (1-1, 5.82 ERA).
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 18 through the season's first 19 games and rank 16th nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight to the start of the season, combining for a 3.98 ERA (167.1 IP) to rank second in The American and 40th nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 87.0 of those innings and has given up just 29 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 3.00.
Extra-base hits have been aplenty to begin the year as the Tigers have already hit for 38 doubles (No. 89 NCAA, No. 4 AAC) and four triples (No. 115 NCAA, No. 6 AAC). Memphis has 145 total hits on the season with 62 of them (43%), going for extra bases.
