Memphis Comeback Bid Falls Short Against Middle Tennessee

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis (14-19, 3-6 AAC) softball fell in its midweek matchup against Middle Tennessee (14-19, 3-6 CUSA) by a score of 8-7 Wednesday evening at Tiger Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both sides went down in order in the first inning.
- The Blue Raiders gained the first lead of the game in the top of the second inning after an RBI single to left center off the bat of Lilly Pendergrast.
- In the bottom half of the inning, Faith Brown singled down the left field line to score Mia Brown from second.
- Mia Brown had reached on an error to lead off the frame.
- A fielding error in the third inning allowed Julia Garcia to reach, scoring Addy Edgmon on the play.
- Memphis plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning on four hits.
- After Aubrey Williams led off the inning with a single, Neely Taylor attempted to bunt the runner over and reached on a throwing error.
- Ariel Davis doubled down the left field line to bring both Williams and Taylor home to give the Tigers a one-run lead.
- After advancing on a groundout by Zoe Adebayo, Davis scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mia Brown.
- Kennedy Semien reached on a single and later avoided a tag to earn a stolen base.
- Faith Brown recorded her second RBI of the contest with a single up the middle to score Semien.
- After two runners reached base in the top of the fourth, Macie Harter hit a two-RBI triple to bring the Memphis lead down to one run.
- Harter scored on a passed ball during the following at-bat to tie the game at five runs apiece.
- Neither side recorded a run in the fifth or sixth innings.
- In the top of the seventh, Lexi Medlock hit a two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders the lead for the first time since the top of the third inning.
- A third run scored in the inning after a throwing error by Jericho Tate.
- Ariel Davis made it a one-run game in the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI double to score Neely Taylor and Drue Thomas.
- With runners on first and second, the next two Memphis batters struck out and grounded out to end the game.
NOTABLES
- Jericho Tate moves to 2-5 on the season, taking the loss after entering in relief of starter Lyrical Bennett.
- After failing to reach in four plate appearances, Zoe Adebayo's on-base streak ends at 11 games, the second longest streak for a Tiger this season.
- Neely Taylor holds the longest streak after reaching base in the first 12 games of the 2025 season.
- Neely Taylor recorded two runs scored in her 33rd start of the season.
- Despite finishing hitless, Taylor reached on an error twice and came around to score each time.
- Faith Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
- Brown has at least one RBI in five of her last six games played.
- Mia Brown finished with one RBI on a sacrifice fly, her third of the season.
- She is currently tied with Faith Brown for the team lead in sacrifice flies.
- Four qualified Memphis hitters (Neely Taylor, Kennedy Semien, Zoe Adebayo, Faith Brown) come out of the midweek contest with a batting average above .300.
