Tigers Set to Host UAB for Alumni Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Tigers softball (14-19, 3-6 AAC) is set for a three-game series against UAB (13-18, 3-6 AAC) for Alumni Weekend.
The updated weekend schedule features a doubleheader with start times of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, with the series finale set for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday. The doubleheader will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Matt Infield on the call.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis most recently fell in its midweek game against Middle Tennessee, 8-7. The Tigers entered the bottom of the seventh at a three-run deficit and left two runners on base to end the game.
Neely Taylor continues to be the most consistent piece of the Memphis lineup, leading the team in batting average (.374) and hits (37) while being the only Tiger to have started all 33 games this season. Kennedy Semien has also led the team in those same categories at earlier points of the season and currently is tied for the team lead in doubles (8) and runs scored (28), while also ranking second in batting average (.351), hits (33) and walks (18).
Zoe Adebayo has been a power bat for the Tigers all season, currently leading the lineup in OPS (1.103), slugging percentage (.663), triples (3), home runs (5), RBI (26) and is tied for the team lead in doubles with eight.
Rylee Dugar sits tied for the lowest ERA on the pitching staff with Taniyah Brown at a 4.15. Dugar leads the staff in innings pitched (60.2) and strikeouts (41). In Memphis' midweek contest, a pair of freshmen in Lyrical Bennett and Jericho Tate appeared in the circle. Bennett has two complete games on the season and Tate has struck out 28 batters over 40 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE BLAZERS
UAB is entering the weekend after securing a series victory against Tulsa, having won the first two games to secure the series before dropping game three.
Bella Wiggins leads the Blazer offense with a .457 batting average, which ranks second in the American Athletic Conference and 33rd nationally. Three other UAB players (Hannah Dorsett, Lindsey Smith, Hannah Miles) have batting averages above the .300 mark. Smith currently leads the Blazers in home runs (5), RBI (22) and is tied for the team lead in doubles with seven. Miles has 11 extra-base hits (five doubles, 4 triples, two home runs) on the season and is second in RBI with 21.
The UAB pitching staff is led by the pairing of Caroline McLendon and Tait Davidson. Both are 6-6 with an ERA under four and have thrown at least 70 innings this season. McLendon leads UAB with 81.2 innings pitched and 48 strikeouts, while Davidson has struck out 44 over 72 innings in the circle.
THE SERIES WITH…
The Tigers trail in the all-time series with UAB with an 8-21 record against the Blazers. The Tigers have not defeated UAB since the 2011 season when they came out on top with a narrow 1-0 victory. UAB has won the last 10 matchups in the all-time series.
