Memphis Set to Host Charlotte for Hometown Heroes Weekend

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis softball (16-24, 4-11 AAC) is set to host the Charlotte 49ers (20-22, 8-7 AAC) for Hometown Heroes Weekend at Tigers Softball Complex.
All three games this weekend will be broadcast on ESPN+, with the opening game on Friday at 6 p.m. with Tyler Springs on the call. Saturday's game, slated for a 3 p.m. start, will feature Matt Infield providing play-by-play, with Dave Woloshin on the call for the series finale Sunday at noon.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Memphis recently snapped a five-game losing streak with a 9-1 mercy rule victory over Jackson State on Wednesday.
Neely Taylor has been a mark of consistency for the Tigers in the 2025 season, leading Memphis with a .342 batting average and starting in all 40 games. Kennedy Semien recently bounced back from a multi-game hitless streak with three hits and two RBI in the midweek game, as she currently sits at a .327 average and leads the team in runs scored with 29, while being tied for the team lead in doubles with eight.
Zoe Adebayo continues to be Memphis' primary power hitter after slugging her seventh home run of the season against Jackson State. Her seven home runs and 29 RBI lead the team and are the most for a Tiger since 2019. She also leads Memphis in OPS (1.100), walks (23), triples (3) and is tied with Kennedy Semien for the team lead in doubles with eight.
Rylee Dugar has the lowest ERA on the Tiger pitching staff going into the weekend and leads the team in strikeouts with 46. Freshman Lyrical Bennett has emerged to lead the team in innings pitched (82.2) and complete games (6), including three complete games in her last three starts in the circle. Dugar and Bennett are tied for the team lead in wins with five each.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte enters the weekend after falling in a midweek contest to No. 11 Virginia Tech after earning a series sweep against Tulsa the previous weekend.
The 49ers boast a high-powered offense with 96 extra-base hits on the season, 45 of which have been home runs. Jenna Lord leads Charlotte with 16 home runs, 45 RBI and a .394 batting average, while Teagan Ritchie has slugged 15 home runs and has a .310 batting average.
Seven 49ers have started at least 40 games this season. The 49er offense also has eight players with at least 10 walks drawn on the season but also have nine that have struck out at least 10 times this season. Four of those hitters have struck out at least 20 times during the 2025 season.
A duo of Brooke Bowling and Aubrey Yarnall lead the 49ers in the circle. Bowling carries a 5.01 ERA with 11 wins and 70 strikeouts over 103.1 innings thrown. Yarnall has seven wins and two saves over 29 total appearances and holds a 5.05 ERA.

Memphis trails 3-0 in the all-time series against Charlotte, having been swept by the 49ers last season.
The Tigers and 49ers had never faced off prior to last season, as the 2024 season was Charlotte's first in the American Athletic Conference.
