7 Former Tigers on Northern Super League Inaugural Rosters
Apr 15, 2025 | Women's Soccer
TORONTO – Seven Memphis women's soccer alumni are set to be a part of Canadian soccer history on Wednesday, as the Northern Super League kicks off its inaugural season as the first top-division women's soccer league in the country.
Founded by former Canada women's national soccer team player Diana Matheson, the league will feature six teams – five of which will feature a former Tiger – in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Calgary, Vancouver and Ottawa. ESPN+ will broadcast over 40 matches including select playoff games and the final, and TSN, RDS, and CBC/Radio Canada will provide domestic coverage.
"Seeing the growth of women's soccer in Canada into what it is now is really neat, and it's great to see so many former players of ours across multiple generations," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "Our program would not be where it is today without our Canadian players, and for the success of these players to be this visible is great."
Memphis' seven former players on NSL opening day rosters are the most for any university in the country.
Anne-Valerie Seto will be the most recent Tiger to appear in the NSL, making her professional debut for Halifax Tides FC after playing at Memphis from 2021-24. The Montreal native appeared in 67 games for the Tigers, scoring eight goals and five assists from midfield.
Joining Seto in Halifax are Saorla Miller and Christabel Oduro. Miller tallied 62 points in 98 games for the Tigers, earning First Team All-Conference honors in 2023 behind 12 goals and three assists. Oduro played from 2010-13 and ranks second in program history in goals (47) and points (121). She has played professionally in the United States, Germany, Israel, Sweden, Malta and Turkey prior to returning to her home country of Canada.
In addition to Seto and Miller, Mya Jones and Grace Stordy are among the NSL players who were apart of the historic 2023 Memphis team that went 20-2 and reached the Sweet Sixteen. Jones, the 2023 AAC Offensive Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference member, will spend the year on loan with AFC Toronto from San Diego Wave FC, where she became the first Tiger to get drafted to the NWSL in 2024. Stordy, who also made four All-Conference Teams in the Blue and Gray, will play for her hometown team, Calgary Wild FC.
2021 graduate Tanya Boychuk will play for Montreal Roses FC, having most recently played in Sweden where she scored seven goals in 2024. The forward from Edmonton scored 21 goals and added nine assists as a Tiger. Rounding out the ambush of Canadian Tigers is Lisa Pechersky, who will play for Vancouver Rise FC. The four-year Tiger played for Dutch team PSV in 2023 before being sold for the second-highest fee in team history.
