Tigers to Host South Florida for Three-Game AAC Series

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis baseball team is set to host South Florida at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field this weekend, kicking off a three-game American Athletic Conference series with a Friday afternoon double header, beginning at noon.
Game two is scheduled to begin 45 minutes after the completion of Friday's game one. Game three is scheduled for Saturday's original time slot of 2:05 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Jeff Brightwell and Greg Gaston Sr. on the call.
FedExPark will play host to the 66th, 67th and 68th all-time meetings between the two programs. South Florida leads the all-time series 34-31 and took two-of-three from the Tigers in Tampa last season.
Memphis (11-17, 0-6 AAC) dropped a 5-3 contest at FedExPark Tuesday night to Mississippi State (17-12) and is coming off its second weekend of American Athletic Conference action where the Tigers dropped three games to Charlotte at FedExPark. The Tigers will aim to get back in the win column and snap a losing skid on Friday.
Th Tigers will roll out a weekend rotation of RHP Seth Garner (2-3, 4.14 ERA) for game one on Friday, followed by LHP David Case (1-5, 5.28 ERA, 41 K) for game two of the double header. LHP Isaac Lucas (2-0, 3.57 ERA) is slated to start the series finale. The Bulls will counter with reigning AAC Pitcher of the Week, lefty Corey Braun (3-2, 2.58 ERA), who pitched a complete-game shutout in last Friday's 3-0 win over Tulane and allowed just two hits.
South Florida (17-9, 5-1 AAC) is riding a six-game winning streak after sweeping Tulane in Tampa last weekend and earning a 9-7 midweek win over Bethune Cookman on Tuesday. The Bulls have won five-straight league games after taking the final two games from UAB (17-12, 2-4) on conference-opening weekend.
South Florida is led offensively by last week's AAC Player of the Week, Marcus Brodil (.364 AVG. / 32 H / 25 R, 8 SB) and Sebastian Greico (.292 AVG. / 8 HR / 28 RBI).
Entering the week, Tiger catcher Jonah Sutton was tied for second nationally in runners thrown out from behind the plate (14). Sutton is one of four catchers nationally to have thrown out 14-plus runners and is now 14-of-31 (45%) from behind the dish.
After ranking 12th nationally with 54 double plays turned a season ago, the Tigers have turned 24 through the season's first 28 games and rank 37th nationally in that category.
The Memphis pitching staff has been another highlight through the first half of the season, combining for a 4.64 ERA (242.2 IP) to rank third in The American and 52nd nationally. The Tiger bullpen has accounted for 127.0 of those innings and has given up 63 earned runs for a bullpen ERA of 4.46.
