MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball fell to South Florida on Saturday afternoon at Elma Roane Fieldhouse, 90-81.
The Tigers (7-10, 1-3 American) scored their second-highest total of the season but allowed their most points, as South Florida shot 50% from the field and 41.7% from three. Daejah Richmond again paced the Tigers, posting 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
It was a tale of two halves, with just 26 total points after the first quarter. Memphis took a 32-29 lead with 1:32 remaining in the half, but the Bulls (10-7, 3-1 American) closed the period with points on five of their last seven possessions to lead, 35-31. 15 of Richmond's points came in the half as the junior shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the field.
South Florida's scoring increased each quarter, beginning with 24 points in the third behind a 7-0 run that pushed the lead to 14. Tamya Smith and Amauri Williams combined for 11 points in the frame to keep the Tigers afloat, but 18 points in the paint for the Bulls kept the hosts at arm's reach.
Memphis tied their highest-ever point tally in the fourth quarter with 33 points but couldn't string together enough stops to get any closer than nine. Five Bulls scored in double figures, the first time an opponent has done so against Memphis this season. Katie Davidson led the way with a season-high 20 points.
Chaé Harris had 13 points behind her sixth multi-three performance of the year, and Paris Gaines added eight points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers will travel to Denton to face North Texas on Tuesday, January 13, at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
