Stokes Lands on Davey O’Brien Great 8 List
Oct 05, 2026 | Football
FORT WORTH, Texas – University of Memphis quarterback Marcus Stokes was named to the Davey O'Brien "Davey Double" Great 8, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced on Monday.
Normally a list featuring the eight best performances by quarterbacks, this week's list was noted as the organization's one "Davey Double" list of the season, recognizing 16 quarterbacks from this week's action. Stokes is also now on the Davey O'Brien Award Midseason Watch List, as all members of the Great 8 are automatically named to the watch list.
Stokes, a redshirt junior from St. Augustine, Florida, has been one of the nation's most accurate quarterbacks, ranking ninth in the FBS with a 73.2 completion percentage, while also sitting sixth in passing touchdowns (14) with five against Charlotte. His outing was highlighted by a 93-yard touchdown pass to Jermane Hayes, the second-longest passing play in program history and third-longest offensive play ever by the Tigers.
Stokes followed up his pass to Hayes with four more touchdown passes to Jemyri Davis, Stonka Burnside and Hunter Tipton twice. The West Florida transfer also finished as Memphis' second-leading rusher in the win, gaining 61 yards on nine carries.
Earlier today, Stokes was named the American's Offensive Player of the Week.
