IRVING, Texas – After tying a career high with five passing touchdowns in Memphis' 59-8 win over Charlotte, quarterback Marcus Stokes was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.
Stokes, a redshirt junior from St. Augustine, Florida, continued a theme this season of being efficient and accurate. Stokes led the nation's fourth-most efficient passing offense with 318 passing yards and five scores in the victory. His outing was highlighted by a 93-yard touchdown pass to Jermane Hayes, the second-longest passing play in program history and third-longest offensive play ever by the Tigers.
Stokes followed up his pass to Hayes with four more touchdown passes to Jemyri Davis, Stonka Burnside and Hunter Tipton twice. The West Florida transfer also finished as Memphis' second-leading rusher in the win, gaining 61 yards on nine carries.
