Tigers Split Doubleheader, Earn First Win of Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team fell to Harvard 4-0 but bounced back, winning their first match of the season over SEMO, 4-0.

In the first match against Harvard, Memphis fell on courts two and three to give the doubles point to Harvard. Sofiia Mykhailets/Emma Dvorackova were in a tight 5-5 contest with the No. 45 ranked duo in the nation before the match went unfinished.

The Crimson took momentum into singles, claiming wins on courts one, two and five. Natalia Koppova, Clemence Thouard and Rebecca Frant all won sets and started decisive third sets before Harvard clinched the match with a win on court five.

The Tigers rallied from their morning defeat and took the doubles point against SEMO in dominant fashion. Memphis pairings Alicia Mall/Clemence Thouard and Natalia Koppova/Rebecca Frant both handled business in their matches, winning 6-1 and grabbing an early 1-0 lead for Memphis.

Sofiia Mykhailets grew the lead with her fourth singles win of the season, 6-2, 6-1. Freshmen Alicia Mall and Emma Dvorackova picked up their first collegiate wins in singles on courts three and four with Dvorackova clinching the match to give Memphis its first win of the season. All three singles winners dropped only three games total in their respective matches.

Memphis' record stands at 1-8 and will be back in action Feb. 28 when they host Columbia. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at Leftwich Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
