Mar 11, 2026 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis RHP Will Howell was one of 142 players named to the 2026 Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, the College Baseball Foundation announced Wednesday.
Howell, a Redshirt Sophomore from Pine Bluff, Ark., posted a 2.36 ERA last season and appeared in 16 games. In Howell's first start this season he allowed no runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work against Toledo.
The award has been awarded annually since 2009 and features previous winners such as Stephen Strasburg (2009), Jon Gray (2013), Aaron Nola (2014), and Paul Skenes (2023). A finalist from last year, Dylan Volantis (Texas), headlines this season's list.
"There is an old adage in baseball that pitchers are usually ahead of the hitters early in the season," National Pitcher of the Year Award co-chair Brian Melakian said. "The number of early season dominant pitching performances this year proves that adage to be true." For more information on the award visit the College Baseball Foundation website at www.cbhalloffame.org/hall.
