SANTA BARBARA, Ca. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 53 UC Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon at the Arnhold Tennis Center.

UC Santa Barbara claimed the doubles point after wins on courts one and three. The duo of Shanelle Iaconi/Isabella Wong defeated Sofiia Mykhailets/Emma Dvorackova 6-0 on court one, while Lily Pradkin/My-Anh Holmes secured the point with a 6-4 win over Natalia Koppova/Rebecca Frant on court three. The match on court two featuring Alicia Mall/Clemence Thouard against Ekua Youri/Caroline Beard was left unfinished with the Tigers leading 5-4.

The Gauchos carried that momentum into singles play, winning five of the six matches to secure the victory. UC Santa Barbara picked up straight-set wins on courts four, five and six to take control of the match before adding victories on courts two and three.

Memphis' lone point of the afternoon came from Sofiia Mykhailets at the top singles position. The sophomore defeated Shachf Liebermann in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Memphis falls to 2-12 and will be back home on Wednesday, March 25 against Denver. First serve is set for 5 p.m. at Leftwich Tennis Center. Admission to the match is free.
