James Smith IV Earns American Conference Player of the Week Honor

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis OF/RHP James Smith IV was honored as the American Conference's Player of the Week the conference announced Tuesday.
Smith, a senior from Olive Branch, Miss., delivered a dominant weekend at the plate, batting .600 with nine hits, two doubles and three home runs. He powered Memphis offensively with a three-run homer and a grand slam on Saturday before adding another three-run shot in Sunday's contest. In Saturday's performance, Smith became the first Memphis player to record seven or more RBIs in a game since Austin Baskin drove in eight against Tulane on May 18, 2023.
Across the series, Smith led the Tigers in batting average (.600), hits (9), home runs (3), extra-base hits (5), RBIs (16), slugging percentage (1.333) and OPS (1.933).
His 16 RBIs against Eastern Illinois more than doubled his season total entering the weekend, and he now leads the team with 27 RBIs. Smith also recorded his sixth multi-hit game of the season while extending his hitting streak to seven games.
