NEW ORLEANS – Seven members of the Memphis men's and women's track and field teams were named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.
"These accolades highlight the fact that our student-athletes are excelling both in the classroom and on the track," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "This is a true testament of the epitome of our student-athletes."
On the men's side, Daryl Smith Jr. and Marek Waltke earned All-Academic honors. On the women's side, Gizel Clayton, Isabelle Cruickshank, Adela Mullerova, Maddie Roberts and Lilith Stenger were named to the All-Academic team. This marks the second straight year Roberts has received the honor.
This is the third consecutive year Memphis has placed student-athletes on the USTFCCCA All-Academic list.
To qualify for individual All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher and meet specific athletic criteria: finishing ranked in the top 96 nationally in an individual event during the indoor season, or competing in any phase of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Additionally, both the Memphis men's and women's programs earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team recognition. The men recorded a 3.40 cumulative GPA, while the women posted a 3.39 team GPA. This marks the second consecutive year both squads have received team honors.
Nationally, 1,065 student-athletes and 405 teams across NCAA Division I track and field were recognized.
