Record 272 Round Moves Memphis into a Tie for Second at Visit Knoxville Collegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's golf team sits tied for second place after day one at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate at Fox Den Country Club on Monday, powered by an 8-under-par 272 in the second round.
The Tigers' second-round 272 tied the program record for a single team round, matching the mark previously set at the 2026 American Conference Championship.
Senior Yixiang Wang led the charge, firing a 5-under-par 65 in the afternoon loop to finish the day tied for second place individually. It marks the third time in Wang's career he has recorded a 65, last accomplishing the feat at the 2025 Cullan Brown Collegiate.
Memphis opened the tournament with a 1-over 281 in round 1, led by Tobey Kim's 1-under 69. Diego Lourenco and Wang opened with even-par 70s, while Christian Morneau shot 72 (+2) and Luke Stennett recorded a 76 (+6).
The Tigers rebounded in the afternoon to finish 36 holes tied with No. 12 Georgia at 7-under-par 553, trailing leader Chattanooga by a single stroke.
Stennett, a junior transfer from Rhode Island, bounced back in the second round with a 2-under 68 to end the day tied for 55th (+4). Lourenco shot a 1-under 69 to move into a tie for 24th (-1) alongside Kim, who carded an even-par 70. Morneau shot 76 (+6) to finish tied for 80th (+8).
Through two rounds, Memphis sits ahead of several nationally ranked programs in the Golfweek and Golf Channel preseason polls, including No. 4 Vanderbilt and No. 8 Tennessee.
The Tigers return to Fox Den Country Club on Tuesday for the third and final round. Memphis tees off starting at 9:20 a.m. CT / 10:20 a.m. ET.
