Marshall Reaches 1,000 Career Assists as Memphis Falls to Mississippi State

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team (2-6) fell to Mississippi State (7-1) in three-sets inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi State opened the match with a 7-0 run in the first frame before two service errors put Memphis on the board. Arianna Mongare and Amanda Hardt recorded late kills for the Tigers, but the Bulldogs closed on an 8-0 run to secure the opening set, 25-7.
The Bulldogs carried momentum into the second set, taking an early 14-4 lead following an 8-0 run. Sydney Marshall answered with a late kill to stem the run, but a block assist from Noella Obi and Lindsey Mangelson capped a 6-0 run to give Mississippi State the 25-11 victory.
Memphis produced its strongest effort in the third set. After falling behind 7-2 early, the Tigers answered with a 3-0 run sparked by a Mongare kill. The teams traded back-to-back 3-0 runs before late errors by Memphis gave the Bulldogs the leverage needed to close out the set and match, 25-23.
