Memphis Sweeps Southern Miss to Open Rumble at the Roane

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis volleyball team (4-6) opened the Rumble at the Roane with a 3-0 sweep of Southern Mississippi (8-2) inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Thursday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis sparked the opening frame with a 5-1 run before Southern Miss answered with a service error and a kill from Sadie McAda. Kills from Caitlyn Little and Kaylee Parker sustained the Tigers' momentum, though the Golden Eagles responded with four straight points to pull within one. Memphis controlled the rest of the frame, using a pair of 3-0 runs to close out a 25-19 victory.
The teams traded points early in the second set before a service error sparked a 4-0 spurt for Southern Miss, giving them a 17-16 lead. Kills from Sydney Marshall, Amanda Hardt, and Little brought Memphis back, while McAda countered for the Golden Eagles. An attack error by Southern Miss then launched a crucial 3-0 Tiger run, propelling Memphis to a 25-21 set win.
The third set remained tight early, tied at 5-5 after runs by both sides. A Little kill initiated a 3-0 push for the Tigers, but McAda answered with a three-point surge of her own to give Southern Miss temporary momentum. Memphis countered down the stretch, using 3-0 and 4-0 runs to complete the sweep with a 25-21 victory in the final set.

Memphis returns to action Saturday, Sept. 19, to wrap up the Rumble at the Roane against Little Rock. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
