Memphis Completes 2027 Nonconference Slate, Signs Home-and-Home with Toledo

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis football program has completed its 2027 nonconference schedule and added another game to the 2028 slate, agreeing to play a home-and-home series with the University of Toledo in 2027 and 2028.
Memphis will open its 2027 season with a home game against Toledo on Sept. 4 in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, followed by a season-opening road game on Sept. 2, 2028, at the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio.
This agreement tentatively fills Memphis' 2027 nonconference slate, with the Tigers set for matchups against Toledo, Arkansas State, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee in consecutive weeks to start the season. It becomes Memphis' third nonconference game in 2028, joining a road game against Arkansas and a home matchup against Arkansas State.
The pair of meetings will be the first time that the Tigers and Rockets have ever faced off in the programs' shared histories. It will also add to Memphis' limited history against Mid-American Conference (MAC) competition, sitting at 2-2 with three games against Bowling Green (2-1) and one against Akron (0-1). The Tigers' most recent game against a MAC program was a 77-3 win over Bowling Green in Memphis in 2016.
Toledo, a perennial contender in the MAC is coming off its fourth straight season of eight-plus wins, collecting a total of 43 wins over the past five seasons, and sits at 3-1 under first-year head coach, Mike Jacobs.
