Jordan Darling was named an assistant coach for the Tigers prior to the 2021-22 season, which marks his second stint in The Bluff City. He was elevated to an Associate Head Coach prior to the 2023 season.
In his second stint with the Tigers, Darling has helped the team to a 45-12-8 overall record and three consecutive American Athletic Conference Championships with trips to the NCAA Tournament in all three seasons.
For a second straight year, Memphis played its way to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen game during the 2023 season. The 20-2 overall Tigers took wins over LSU and ninth-ranked Notre Dame while holding the Fighting Irish to below their average scoring threshold. Darling and the rest of the Memphis staff was honored with the American Athletic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year and the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Staff of the Year for a second season.
Along with the team's 12th trip to the Big Dance, Memphis claimed its third consecutive AAC Championship and the first-ever AAC West Division Championship During the league regular season, the Tiger defense held opponents to just one goal with a perfect 9-0 spot in conference play.
Memphis made history during the 2022 season when it defeated No.10 Saint Louis and Mississippi State in route to the program's first-ever Sweet Sixteen appearance. Darling and the rest of the Memphis staff where named as the 2022 United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Staff of the Year following their historic run.
During the 2021 season, Darling helped coach the program's most successful season on the defensive end; the Tigers would allow their opponents just 11 goals all season while the duo of Elizabeth Moberg and Claire Wyville combined for a goals-against average of 0.51 - the lowest in program history. Memphis would record 12 shutouts that season, including a five-game shutout streak (Oct. 28-Nov. 14).
Darling served as an assistant coach at East Carolina during the 2021 spring season, where he worked primarily with the goalkeepers and coordinated the program's video software and camps. The Pirates finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference and advanced to the semifinals of the AAC Tournament. Darling tutored freshman goalkeeper Maeve English to a record-setting first season, as she was the first freshman in AAC history to earn three Goalkeeper of the Week awards in the same season while also earning All-Freshman Team and All-Conference Tournament Team honors.
Darling served as an assistant at Miami (Ohio) during the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, working primarily with the RedHawks' goalkeepers and coordinating the program's operational needs ranging from travel arrangements to community service endeavors. Additionally, he managed video analysis in scouting preparation and assisted with all facets of the recruiting process and camp organization.
On the field, Darling tutored newcomers in successive seasons that resulted in a Mid-American Conference-leading 119 saves and a league runner-up 82.6 save percentage in 2019.
In addition to his work with the RedHawks and Tigers, Darling has an extensive coaching history at the club level. He spent three years (2015-17) as a coach with the Collierville Lobos Rush Soccer Club, serving as head coach for the '01 girls select team in 2016 and 2017. He also helped the Lobos' U17 boys premier team capture a Tennessee State Championship in 2015-16 as an assistant coach.
Darling previously spent four seasons in Memphis as a volunteer assistant coach from 2014-17, where he helped the Tigers post a 42-25-11 overall record and a 21-8-7 mark in league play while coaching the goalkeepers. In 2016, the Tigers finished 14-5-1 and earned an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, where they took a 1-0 lead over No. 17 Arkansas into the 88th minute before dropping a heartbreaker in overtime.
Before his stint with Collierville, Darling coached the Oxford Soccer Club U12 girls (2012-14) and U14 girls (2013-15). He was named Mississippi Northern District Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Soccer Association in the 2014-15 season after guiding OSC to Division 2 and 3 state titles.
Darling also possesses a wealth of playing experience, playing for TFC United in Tupelo, Mississippi, Clinton FC and Brandon FC in Jackson, Mississippi and the Tennessee Rush Soccer Club in Memphis. During his playing days, he was invited to travel with Buckhead United, playing in Scotland and Wales in the summer of 2006 as well as in Holland in 2007 for the People to People Sports program.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Memphis in 2017 before following with a Master's in Education (Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership) from Washington in 2018.
Darling holds a USSF National D Coaching License and an NSCAA Level 1 and Level 2 Goalkeeper License.
