Nate Brown came to the University of Memphis in July of 2021 working as the Director of High School Relations. After the first season, acquired the title of Director of High School Relations & Alumni Engagement.
After coaching for 11 years at the college football level, Brown transitioned to Athletic Administration and the role of Director of External Engagement & Special projects. In 2024, he was given the title of Director of Development. His responsibilities are as such:
- Major Gift Officer: Responsible for Identification, Cultivation, & Stewardship for potential donors.
- Primary Fundraising duties pertain to football & other projects assigned by Sport Administrator and Senior Staff.
- Responsible for fundraising, soliciting gifts $15K+, & maintaining Football Alumni budget.
- Responsible for closing one of the single-largest gifts given by a non-corporate donor at $2M (‘24).
- Responsible for cultivating, developing, & launching Athletic Alumni engagement programs.
- Responsible for generating content, maintenance, & enhancements for Football Alumni application.
- Oversight of primary donor programs for Memphis Football specifically. Highland Hundred & First Team.
- Involved with Ticketing & Premium Seating sales that pertain to all revenue generating sports.
- Liaison to Altius Sports Partners & collectives in strategizing & identifying NIL opportunities for all sports.
- Currently responsible for bringing in $1.5M of new money within a fiscal year. (FY23-FY24)
- Volunteer as a Team Host to Clemson, for the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament, and other duties as assigned by the NCAA Host Committee. (2024)
The 2007 graduate of Burkburnett High started three seasons at cornerback before moving over to safety for the Warhawks during a collegiate career which spanned from 2007-11. Brown also served as a team captain.
Brown rushed for 4,536 yards and 57 touchdowns during a stellar prep career with the Bulldogs before competing as a four-year starter at cornerback and safety at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
Since completing his playing career, Brown constructed a notable coaching career.
He spent the 2019 season as a defensive backs coach at Towson helping the Tigers to a 7-5 mark in 2019 as the team ranked seventh in all of NCAA Division I FCS in total interceptions.
Prior to his time in Maryland, Brown served as assistant coach in charge of the secondary and nickelbacks at the University of North Texas from 2016-18. There, he was a member of Seth Littrell's staff that guided the Mean Green to consecutive bowl game appearances including the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl (2016), R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl (2017) and the Gildan New Mexico Bowl (2018).
Brown coached a pair of All-Conference USA performers in Kemon Hall (first team) and Nate Brooks (second team) with Brooks finishing as a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist also in 2018.
Brown returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach for defensive backs in 2015 where he mentored Trey Caldwell, who was selected in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns.
His first two seasons as a full-time coach came at Millsaps College in 2013 where coached three all-conference performers while helping the Majors to a Southern Atlantic Association championship before moving on to Grambling State in 2014 coaching the secondary and serving as defensive passing game coordinator.
Brown served as a defensive graduate assistant for defensive backs and linebackers at ULM in 2012 as the Warhawks advanced to the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl.
Brown graduated from Louisiana-Monroe with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with a concentration in fitness and sports studies. He also earned a master's degree in education from ULM in 2012.
Nate is married to Amanda Brown, a native of Louisiana and they have one son, Tre.
