Tigers Place Fourth at USM's Raising Cane Classic

Hattiesburg, MS - University of Memphis sophomore golfer Allan Thomas, who qualified for and was participating in his first collegiate golf event, posted a five under par score of 66 to lead the Tigers to a fourth place finish among 17 teams in the Raising Cane Classic, hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi at Cane Break Golf Club in Hattiesburg. Host institution Southern Mississippi won the team competition with a 54-hole score of 848. Sam Houston State and Jacksonville State tied for second at 868, while Memphis was fourth with a 869. Tulane rounded out the top five with a team total of 871. Michael Soroka of Southern Mississippi claimed the individual title on the third hole of a sudden death playoff. Soroka had scores of 71-67-72--210. Thomas finished tied for sixth with rounds of 74-73-66. Tiger sophomore Richard Jones tied for 15th at 217 and junior Alan Weant tied for 18th with a 218. Weant carded a one under par score of 70 in the final round.
