Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"There were two things that we talked about -- one was rebounding offensively and knocking down shots. We did a fairly good job (on the glass). We didn't give them too many offensive rebounds. But, the teams that beat them, knocked down shots. We didn't knock down many and we settled for 30 three-pointers. The whole game we were saying, `Throw the ball, drive the ball, drive the ball, drive the ball.' We were just settling for too many threes. It is one thing to settle for them and make them, but we weren't making them. This (shooting threes) doesn't get you to the line enough. So, it compounded our problems."
"There was no one that played well. In this kind of game, you must have two or three guys that really play well and that everyone talks about after the game. We didn't have anybody. No one really `Wow, he played well.' You can't win this kind of game. To give ourselves a chance to win for as bad as we were playing, I was stunned. We were a bucket down and all of a sudden we get beat on the dibble, and this gives him a lay-up."
Texas Head Coach Rick Barnes
"It was a helluva win baby. Our man defense was good, but we used a lot more zone than I thought we would. We had to because of the foul trouble we were in. Both teams were throwing the ball around because of the intensity of the game and both teams played very hard."
"Brad Buckman had a tough 24 hours obviously, but he made some things happen in there even though he missed a lot of shots. He did well going the distance because he did not even practice yesterday. I thought Daniel Gibson had a solid game and Conner Atchley handled this environment well also."
"The environment was great and to come in here and find a way to get it done is huge. I feel good for our guys. Memphis is a very hard team to defend because of the way they play."
"I trusted LaMarcus Aldridge and I would rather him be playing than sitting on the bench. I told him to stay down and let Memphis' players go over the top of you, but that is not the easiest thing to do. I wanted to let them throw it inside because that is not what they do. Memphis shoots a lot of threes."
