Women's Golfer Selected to Participate in NCAA Leadership Conference

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis women's golfer Ashley Burross has been selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference from May 29-June 2 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. The junior is one of 324 student-athletes chosen from among 1,166 nominations from Division I, II and III national Student-Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC).
Burross, a public relations major, serves as the Memphis SAAC president and is also on the Conference USA SAAC. A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., Burross has competed in 11 tournaments with the Lady Tigers and has an 85.6 average through three seasons. Her career low round is a 1-over 73 at the 2005 Kentucky Wildcat Fall Invite. Burross averaged an 81.7 in two fall tournaments in 2005.
The NCAA Leadership Conference provides NCAA student-athletes with a forum to openly discuss issues that may affect them on their campuses and in their communities, while also providing them with the opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The leadership conference also promotes better communication among student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty and communities. The five-day leadership conference consists of daily exercises and activities to help the student-athletes develop as individuals and as contributing members to a group.
The conference is an outreach of the successful CHAMPS/Life Skills program. Many of the student-athletes who participate are members of their conference and campus SAAC. Each NCAA member institution that has a CHAMPS/Life Skills program is encouraged to nominate student-athletes from their campus for the annual leadership conference.
