Irvin holds Buffalo to just two hits in five-inning win.
MEMPHIS – Leadoff hitter Kyler Trosclair went 2-for-4 and pitcher Calli Irvin allowed just two hits in a 9-0 Memphis (12-15) win over Buffalo (4-15), Sunday, on the final day of the Chanticleer Challenge.
Memphis opened the game with Trosclair singling and stealing second, her fourth stolen base of the weekend in as many tries. Brittany Seale then doubled to centerfield, scoring Trosclair from second. A Lindsey Stickrod double then scored Seale. Brooke Lee and Tyler Johnson then walked to load the bases, setting up Hannah Harrell for an RBI when she drew a walk of her own. After a pitching change, Regan Hadley walked, scoring Lee, but Taylor Light got the next two hitters on flyouts to get Buffalo out of the inning down 4-0.
Memphis tacked on three more runs in the second inning to push the lead to 7-0. After Lamb scored for a 5-0 lead after Seale reached on an error, Stickrod hit her third homer of the year, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Memphis tacked on two runs in the third and Irvin closed it down from there, sending Bulls hitters 3-up, 3-down in back-to-back innings and inducing a pair of groundouts to end the fifth and seal the shutout win.
Memphis is back on the road, Tuesday, facing Belmont in Nashville at 4 p.m. The Tigers then return home host Cleveland State and Northern Kentucky, Friday. The first game will be at 1:00 and the second starts no sooner than 3:00. The Tigers will close out the weekend with a second matchup against Northern Kentucky, Saturday, at 1 p.m.
