Tigers win 10th match of the season
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team won its 10th match of the 2017 season Thursday evening with a 2-0 shutout over ECU. Overall, Memphis improves to 10-5-1 and 4-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play.
It was the sixth shutout of the season for Memphis and the second career shutout for freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg. Moberg finished the night with three saves in the shutout.
"We're at the point in the season where it's a grind," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "I felt that our group matched the intensity and got a well-deserved win. It was a team win."
The Memphis scoring started in the 21st minute by Marie Levasseur. Levasseur put the finishing touches on her eighth goal of the season from six-yards out.
In the 64th minute, Mikayla Morton finished a shot from the top of the box to the lower right corner of the net to put the Tigers up 2-0. Morton, now with nine goals, was assisted by freshman Osa Iyare.
The road trip continues for Memphis with a match at No. 18 Cincinnati Sunday afternoon. Kick-off against the Bearcats is set for 12 p.m. CT. For more information on the Memphis women's soccer team, follow the Tigers on Facebook at /MemphisWSoccer and on Twitter and Instagram at @MemphisWSoccer.
