ECU, Cincinnati Road Trips Up Next For Women’s Soccer

Memphis ends the regular season on the road with three matches, starting with ECU Thursday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team hits the road this weekend as they travel to face ECU Thursday evening before heading north to No. 18/21 Cincinnati Sunday afternoon. Game time against ECU is set for 6:00 p.m. CT, and the Cincinnati match is slated to start at 12 p.m. CT.
The Tigers are coming off of a 3-2 victory against UConn on Senior Day. After honoring the seniors of the team before the match, Memphis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first 15 minutes. Catherine Levasseur scored in the ninth minute, capturing her third goal of the season. That goal was quickly followed by Serena Dolan's strike just a few minutes later. Minutes into the second half, Elizabeth Woerner found the net for her team-leading 10th goal of 2017.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg had four saves, including a point-blank shot that she deflected out of harm's way. Head coach Brooks Monaghan won his 100th career conference match with the win. The victory improved the Tigers to 9-5-1 on the year and 3-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play.

A Look at ECU
ECU comes off of an 11-day break and will host Memphis after suffering a 2-1 loss to UConn on Oct. 1. The result dropped ECU to 5-6-2 with a 0-4 conference record. Jenna Geist scored her first goal of the season in the first half of the match.
This season, Courtney Cash leads the team with five goals and is the only player with more than two goals this season. Michelle Newhouse and Genevieve Ramirez have split time in the net, logging a combined 48 saves and four shutouts.
The Pirates are coached by Rob Donnenwirth, who is in the midst of his 19th season at the helm. ECU was selected to finish eighth in the preseason poll ahead of Temple.
A Look at Cincinnati
The Bearcats will face Tulsa Thursday before they battle Memphis Sunday afternoon. Cincinnati's last match was a 4-0 victory against Morehead State. Four different Bearcats scored in the bout, while goalkeeper Kaleigh Piscioneri recorded two saves.
With her third goal against Morehead State, Jaycie Brown joins three other players as top scorer on the team. Sophie Gorman leads the team in assists with three. With the win, Cincinnati improved to 10-1-2 in 2017, with a 3-0-1 conference record.
Head coach Neil Stafford is in the fifth year of his Bearcats' tenure. Cincinnati was selected to finish third in the preseason poll and defender Vanessa Gilles was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
