Tigers finish with 10-5-3 overall record
TULSA, Okla. – The Memphis Tigers have earned the No. 4 seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament after finishing the regular season with a 0-0 draw on the road at Tulsa Friday evening. Memphis finished the regular season with a 10-5-3 overall recorded and 4-2-3 mark in AAC play.
"We played well tonight," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "Our defenders did a good job of starting the attack and we created a ton of opportunities in the final third. We lacked patience and focus in the box on our finishing. This is something we can definitely improve on heading into the conference tournament next week."
Memphis controlled the majority of the contest against Tulsa. The Tigers finished the night with a season-high 31 shots, marking the first 30+ shot match of the 2017 season.
Despite unable to find the back of the net, the Memphis defense held strong for the entire 110 minutes of play. The Tigers did not allow a Tulsa shot until the 41st minute of the first half and in all, only allowed seven shots.
Jessica Lisi and Mikayla Morton led Memphis with nine and seven shots, respectively. Morton had an opportunity to put the Tigers on the board with a header that hit the crossbar in the 17th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper Elizabeth Moberg recorded one save in her fourth career shutout. Memphis has now recorded three-straight shutouts.
The Tigers will now take on No. 5 UConn in the AAC Tournament, set to begin on Nov. 1 on the campus of UCF at 6 p.m. CT. For more information on the Memphis women's soccer team, follow the Tigers on Facebook at /MemphisWSoccer and on Twitter and Instagram at @MemphisWSoccer.
