Tigers Welcome Alumni Back for Saturday’s Game Against UAB

A large group of Memphis women’s basketball alumni will be recognized at halftime
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team will end a three-game home stand Saturday with a 3 p.m. contest against UAB at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. At halftime of Saturday's game, the Tigers are going to recognize a group of alumni who will be in attendance.

Memphis (1-8) vs. UAB (7-1)

With almost a week off, the Tigers return to the court for a contest against UAB. This will be the first matchup against the Blazers since 2013 after spending years as a conference rival in C-USA. Memphis came out on top in the last matchup by a score of 73-72 and all-time, Memphis owns a 31-20 advantage over UAB. Coming into Saturday's game, here are five things to know about the Memphis women's basketball team.
A Look At UAB
UAB enters the Saturday afternoon game with a 7-1 record including wins in the last four-straight games. The lone loss on UAB's schedule is against Big 10 opponent Indiana back at the end of November.
The Blazers are outscoring their opponents by over 15 points per game and are outrebounding them by almost nine boards per contest.
UAB is led offensively by Rachael Childress, who is scoring just shy of 15 points per game. Also, scoring in double-figures this season for UAB are Deanna Kuzmanic and Miyah Barnes. Childress was named to the Preseason All-Conference USA Team as she was the C-USA Freshman of the Year in 2016-17. Angela Vendrell is the team's leading rebounder at 7.1 boards per game and Barnes leads the team in assists with 41.
Randy Norton is in his fifth season at the helm of the Blazer program. He has a 71-60 overall record in five years.
Series History With UAB
Memphis holds a 31-20 advantage over UAB with the first meeting coming during the 1979-80 season. The Tigers have won the last five games and seven out of the last 10.
UAB and Memphis were longtime rivals in C-USA. Since Memphis moved to the American Athletic Conference, the teams have only played one time. That was in the first non-conference slate after making the move. All-time at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse, Memphis is 16-7 against UAB.

- Cheyenne Creighton recorded her fourth double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Illinois last weekend. She now has 12 in her career, a total that only 15 players in program history have reached.
- Creighton is also closing in on 1,000 career points. With the 17 points against UAB, Creighton sits 123 points shy of becoming the 24th player in program history to reach the milestone.
- Brea Elmore has also picked up where she left off last season. Elmore is averaging a career-high 14.0 points per game and has two, 20+-point games to her name this season.
- Although the consecutive made three-point streak ended against Louisiana Tech, Elmore has continued to be a threat from outside the arc. In the last six games, Elmore has hit 18 three-pointers including a career-high four against Kent State and Illinois. In that time, she's making treys at a clip of 41.8 percent.
- Saturday is Alumni Day at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse and a large number of alumni will be recognized during halftime. Recent alums as well as some with their numbers hanging in the rafters will be in attendance on Saturday.
