Memphis suffers setbacks to Indiana and Lipscomb
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team suffered a pair of setbacks on a rainy Saturday afternoon to Indiana and Lipscomb at the Tigers Softball Complex. Indiana defeated the Tigers by a 9-1 margin in five innings and Lipscomb won by a score of 6-2.
Â
Indiana's win over Memphis snapped a seven-game winning streak and overall, the Tigers fall to 11-9 on the year with one game remaining at the UofM Softball Tournament.
Â
The teams were scoreless for the first two innings before Indiana scored three in the third on three hits, including a two-run home run. Before the Tigers could get a run back in the bottom of the fourth, Indiana produced a five-run fourth to take an 8-0 lead.
Â
A ninth run scored in the top of the fifth by Indiana put the game all but out of reach for Memphis as the Tigers had just one runner reach base in the fifth.
Â
Through three innings of action against Lipscomb, the teams went into a 37-minute rain delay. Out of the delay, the Bisons proceeded to score five runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to take a sizable lead over the Tigers. Memphis answered with one in the fifth and one in the sixth but it was not enough to overcome the six runs scored by Lipscomb.
Â

Crowdus extended her hitting streak to a team-leading nine games with hits against Indiana and Lipscomb. She also scored one of the three Tigers runs on Saturday.
