Women's Golf Tied for Lead at Season Opening Event

Freshman Ana Dawson tied for individual lead.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two Memphis women's golfers carded opening day scores under par at the Payne Stewart Invitational Monday. Memphis fired a day one 579 (+11) and is tied with UTEP for the team lead through 36 holes.
Freshman Ana Dawson, competing as an individual, is tied for the lead with a day one 140 (71-69). She and teammate Sydney Colwill both recorded rounds under par in the season's first competitive rounds. Colwill is a stroke off the lead with a day one 141 (70-71).
Defending tournament medalist Michaela Fletcher and senior Madison Thomas are also in the top 10 following the first 36 holes. Fletcher shot a 145 (72-73) and is tied for sixth, while Thomas recorded a pair of 73's for her opening round 146, good for a tie for eighth.
Abby Herrmann was the team's fourth score with a day one 149 (71-78). She is currently tied for 14th.
Fellow freshman Victoria Gallegos carded a 156 in her first collegiate rounds (80-76) and is tied for 44thoverall.
Dawson shares the lead with Murray State's Linette Holmslykke. UTEP's Abbie Anghelescu carded the low round of the day with a second round 68 to move to fifth in the individual standings.
UTEP and Memphis share the lead at 579, 13 strokes ahead of Murray State.
The final round will tee off Tuesday at 8:30 am.
