Tigers win third-straight run-rule game

MURRAY, Ky. -- The University of Memphis softball team extended its winning streak to three games Wednesday with an 8-0 victory over Murray State on the road. Wednesday's win marks the second win this season over the Racers and third-consecutive victory by run-rule. The Tigers improve to 18-14 with the win.

Memphis scored two in the first to take an early lead over the Racers. Baylee Smith drove in the first run of the day with a double to left center.

After two scoreless innings for both sides, Memphis broke open the contest with six runs in the top of the fourth inning. The Tigers scored their runs on four hits, an error, a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. Baylee Smith registered her second hit of the contest to drive in Delaney Smith for the sixth run of the inning.

Ryleigh Aungst, Gracie Morton and Ashley Threatt also registered hits in the fourth inning, an inning where 11 hitters stepped up to the plate.

Murray State attempted a comeback in the bottom of the fifth by loading the bases, but Karli Perque and the Tiger defense got out of the jam.

Morton and Smith led Memphis with two hits each. In addition to Morton and Smith, Aungst tallied two RBIs. The Tigers drew three walks and two hit by pitches while striking out just twice.

Perque pitched a complete game shutout for the Tigers as she improves to 5-5 on the year. She struck out three while allowing just two walks.

Notables

Baylee Smith and Gracie Morton had two hits each for their 11th and fifth multi-hit games, respectively.
Smith and Morton extend their hitting streaks to a team-high five games. The five games matches Morton's previous career-high hitting streak.
Ashley Threatt extended her on-base streak to a team-high and season-high nine games.
Ryleigh Aungst joined Smith and Morton with two RBIs of her own. This was her third multi-RBI game of the season.
Karli Perque hurled her first complete game shutout of the season. It also marked her fourth complete game.
