Tigers Prepare for Midweek Clash with Central Arkansas Wednesday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After sweeping three games in the Blues City Classic last weekend, the University of Memphis softball team prepares for a midweek clash with Central Arkansas on Wednesday. First pitch at the Tigers Softball Complex is set for 3 p.m.

The Tigers enter the week after taking all three games in the Blues City Classic. Memphis outscored a combination of Sam Houston State, UT Martin and Mississippi Valley State 19-6 and head into the week with an 8-9 record.
Offensively, Baylee Smith continues to lead the Tigers, hitting .438 in 48 at bats. Smith picked up four hits last weekend, including a two-run home run against UT Martin. The sophomore was also perfect on the base paths, swiping two bases against Mississippi Valley State. For her performances, Smith was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.
In the circle, Bayleigh Wisher picked up two wins over the weekend, striking out five in 10.0 innings of work. Wisher enters Wednesday with a 3-1 record. Mariah Nichols earned a win over Mississippi Valley and a save against Sam Houston State. Nichols leads the pitching corps in innings pitched with 45.2 innings and strikeouts, having fanned 27 batters.

On a national level, Regan Hadley is second in the NCAA in sacrifice flies, hitting four on the young season. Baylee Smith and Delaney Smith are tied for 11th in the nation in triples, each having three. Freshman Gracie Morton is 22nd in the country in doubles with seven already this season. Baylee Smith also ranks 24th in the nation with a .917 slugging percentage.

Central Arkansas visits Memphis after splitting four games in the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic. The Sugar Bears took games against the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff and Coppin State but fell to Southeast Missouri State and Missouri State. Central Arkansas had the bats going all weekend, collecting 38 hits and scoring 43 runs in their four games.

The Sugar Bears have two hitters with batting averages above .400, led by Cylla Hill's .475 average in 61 at bats. Kaylyn Shepherd hits .404, picking up 23 hits in 57 at bats.
